What is Customer Satisfaction Score (CSAT)

What is Customer Satisfaction Score (CSAT) No matter in which industry you are working, your biggest concern must be customer satisfaction. Whether you are only starting your business, or you are already a successful businessman, you must be aware of the importance of your stakeholders. This goes to every person or a party that’s responsible for enabling your organization or company to do business successfully, but also the most important one â€" customers. If the customers aren’t satisfied, it won’t matter to anyone how good your product or service actually is, since they will lack trust in you.A good voice is widely heard, but bad one even more â€" thats why every successful company invests in measuring and tracking customer satisfaction, all with an aim of finding the area that can be improved, and therefore the customer satisfaction higher. The only challenge is that there are various types of tests and tools for measuring customer satisfaction, so the question is which one is the best?Further, we will cover everythi ng you need to know about Customer Satisfaction Score (CSAT) and why it would be a good thing for you to use.WHAT IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SCORE?Customer satisfaction score is a methodology used to determine customer satisfaction. Usually, it consists of a short survey that customers fill in, answering questions regarding the recent event or contact they had with the company. This survey can take many different forms, but the main goal is to ask the customer to rate their experience on a scale ranging from bad to good and great.Questions can vary from “How would you rate your experience with us?” to “How much did we fulfill your expectations?” and beyond, followed by a couple choices such as bad, okay, good, great.Bear in mind that the questions and choices should be thoughtfully chosen to make it accessible to customers to accurately express their impression after interacting with your company since there are many perceptions of the same question or statement.Customer Satisf action Score (CSAT) is the most effective customer satisfaction survey methodology, as it is completely straightforward and it measures customer satisfaction with a business, purchase, or interaction. The score is calculated by asking various questions, for example, How satisfied are you with the latest version of our application? The answers are graded on a scale, from least to the most, and the scale itself can be 1 â€" 3, 1 â€" 5, or 1 â€" 10.HOW IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SCORE MEASURED?While creating the customer satisfaction survey, you can choose the way you want your customers to grade their experience. We’ll enlist the possible choices.1. Average ScoreThis method is used to calculate the percentage of satisfied customers from the total number of customers. It is applicable to questions like How satisfied you were with the support you got from us? where the answer could be any number on a scale, for example, 1-10.The average score is calculated by dividing the sum of all grad es and a total number of collected answers, all presented in percentages. For example, 5 customers graded their satisfaction with the following grades: 4, 10, 5, 7, 8; so the customer satisfaction score would be: 68%.2. Satisfied vs UnsatisfiedThis method is used for a quick check of a product or a brand, as it is quite simple for customers to fill in. There is no numbered scale, but there are emoticons instead. Their values can vary, but are usually 1-3 or 1-5, covering the following impressions:(Very unsatisfied)UnsatisfiedNeutralSatisfied(Very satisfied)Although this type of survey is quite easier for customers to fill in, it may lack some important information that could be used for further analysis. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to ask customers additional questions on how to make improvements in particular segments when using this method of calculating the customer satisfaction score.3. Star RatingThis method is quite popular and well seen, especially in the hospitality and catering industries, as well as many online businesses. The customers are asked to grade their experience on a scale 1-5, which creates a clear picture of a brand and gives an instant feedback to the company. This method became quite popular and will remain at this firm place, due to the fact that it is also usually visible to other customers, giving them relevant information about the thing of their interest.Taking this into consideration, companies are being very careful when it comes to customer satisfaction and its impact on the business.4. The “Top-2-Box”Another study gives us a different point of view when it comes to calculating the customer satisfaction score. This method takes into consideration only two highest ranked answers and furtherly comes with the percentage of satisfied customers. There are a couple of KPIs (key performing index) that we track while determining our customer satisfaction score. Those are # of satisfied customers as well as # of satisfaction sur vey responses. The formula was created to calculate the average satisfaction score, and it goes:# of satisfied customers / # of satisfaction survey responses x 100% = % of satisfied customersStudies elaborate that the two highest ranked options are the most accurate ones and the best prediction of the future retention rate.PROS AND CONS OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SCOREBefore deciding the way you want to question the customer satisfaction, you should be aware of all the advantages and disadvantages of the customer satisfaction score.ProsFor the starters, the main advantage of this method is the fact that it is quite simple, making it accessible to everyone everywhere, and really easy and short to fill in. People fill it in instinctively, without thinking too much, which boosts the response rate.Another thing that distinguishes customer satisfaction score from other methods is its flexibility when it comes to the grading scale. As mentioned before, you can use various tools, from number s, emoticons, stars etc. It is completely up to you and what you find most fitting for your customers.ConsNothing is perfect, which goes for customer satisfaction score too. When we talk about disadvantages, the most common one is the fact that the grades could be perceived in different manners in different countries. This is especially important for companies who do business on the international market. For example, it has been proven that Americans are more likely to choose extreme grades, such as completely unsatisfied or completely satisfied. On the other hand, people from Japan and some other Asian countries are most likely to choose something in between, for example, satisfied, unsatisfied or neutral, even though they are feeling the same as Americans. This is the thing of a culture and it is not that easy to overcome, especially for big companies that cooperate with many countries. It requires custom-made surveys, which is not that easy to deliver. Therefore, whenever you are an alyzing the customer satisfaction score, you should take into consideration who are your customers, and if they are coming from different backgrounds, make sure you create the common bases for making the conclusions and taking the action.Another thing you should take into consideration is the fact that the result of customer satisfaction score will show you how people feel based on the last touch point they had with you. This might not be a bad thing (if you are doing customer satisfaction surveys regularly, after each interaction and getting a feedback on the last one is your goal), but if you want to collect general impressions, you might wont be able to get objective answers.People often tend to think of themselves, their product, and service or brand all the best relying on customer satisfaction score and not taking into consideration the fact that many unsatisfied od neutral customers do not have any intention of filling in the survey, leaving the satisfaction score high. This ha ppened to many successful companies in the past, and you should definitely check whether this is happening to you, too. Remember, you are not here to take compliments, but to find the truth and get constructive feedback on your work. It is the only way you can improve your business and enable its growth.Everything mentioned above is almost nothing compared to the fact that we don’t know how to explain the satisfaction itself. It is perceived differently by everyone in the world, due to the fact that we all have different standards and different expectations. If we take a look at the definition of the quality, we might get a clearer picture: Quality is the level at which customer’s expectations are fulfilled opening the question on the expectations. The main message from this should be: dont take for granted your customers actual desires and wishes.Make sure you ask appropriate questions in order to get relevant answers. If you really want to be successful, make sure you understand your customers expectations, and then exceed them.WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO MEASURE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SCORE?Some researchers have defined the customer path and all the process within them.According to them, the best time to measure customer satisfaction score is at each of the phases of the customer path. The phases are the following:Exploring â€" the customer realizes that he or she has the need for something and start searching for the best solutionReferences â€" in order to find the best solution, the customer is looking for all the relevant references that can be found either on the Internet or thankfully to the word of mouth methodPurchase â€" actual purchase processValue delivery â€" the user experience a customer has with the product or service â€" the most important phaseConnection â€" including connection to the particular product or service, but also to the entire brand, due to the fact that the customer was satisfied either with the product/service itself or the way y our company handled all challenges the customer had experiencedBrand advocacy â€" very important phase that helps your business grow; if you’ve done all previous phases correctly (exceeded your customers’ expectations), especially the value delivery, you should have no worries, as your customers will have a natural need to spread a good word about your company products and services. You will get no better confirmation of your customers’ satisfaction than this one, so when you get it, enjoy it completely. These are all the phases within the customer path. The good thing is that you can adjust it to your company, product or a service. Most importantly, you should adjust it to your customers, as they should be in the center of your attention.Never the less important, make sure you do customer satisfaction surveys in all of the above-mentioned phases, but also whenever you are trying an update, releasing a new product, making big changes or just notice that something is not complet ely right and you need some adjustments. If you apply it regularly, you will show your customers that you care, and there is no way for you getting a low customer satisfaction score anymore.HOW TO CREATE A GOOD CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SURVEYSo far you have probably decided to become more customer-centric and all you need to know now is how exactly to become that.Well cover some basics and help you design an outstanding customer survey to gather all the information you need.1. Choose your dictionary carefully. The main goal of the customer satisfaction survey is to realize how satisfied your customers really are with some specific event, action or interaction. For that, you need to ask appropriate questions. That’s when the wording becomes really important. The main characteristics of good questions are:simple and clearadapted to a classical scale format, asking for the source of satisfactionnot complicated to think up and sounds naturaldefinite, you are only asking about the satisfaction , nothing elsecompletely neutral and doesn’t imply an answer directionconcreting the subject of analysis, from the full customer experience to a specific phase or a process, for example, e-mail support that helped create an accountable to be globally comparedAs mentioned previously, you can ask general questions about the entire customer experience, or you can target a specific event, action or interaction. In practical use, it looks like this:“How satisfied are you with our company?” â€" General question“How satisfied are you with your shipping experience?” â€" Specific question2. Choose the most suitable time for your survey. It is most recommended to ask for feedback right after the specific event, action or interaction ended. It’s good to have regular from time to time surveys, but gathering information right after something happens is proven to be most relevant. If you conduct the survey right after the relevant customer experience, you are increasing your chance to g et the most accurate information, as it is still fresh in people’ mind and they can help you the most. There are various ways to do this, such as releasing the questionnaire right after the specific event (end of a call with customer service etc.) or sending a follow-up e-mail to get the information. Both will work, but we still recommend the fastest possible solution which is publishing the survey in the same tab or worksheet the person was on, whilst talking to you or using your product.Dont get us wrong, e-mails are not bad â€" on the contrary they are a very creative method and you can try it, but just bear in mind that not all people will open an e-mail right after the specific event. It can happen hours, days, weeks later and in any business, its quite a lot time, so we believe there are more effective ways to achieve this.3. Set the scale appropriately. It’s important to adjust the scale to your customers, in order for them to be more appealing and easier to fill in.That’s why you should think twice about the choice you are making and the scale you are using. As mentioned previously, it can be various things â€" from numbers to stars and emoticons. There isnt a wrong choice, but if you want to work on your response rate, you should reconsider your decision.CALL TO ACTIONAfter you have gathered all the needed information, it’s time for you to take an action. No customer satisfaction surveys will help you unless you do something with the information you get, in order to improve the CAST.Think about the goals of your company and how related they are to the customer satisfaction score. If you find that many people have challenges or problems with something, and usually it’s the same thing, it’s time for you to find the solution for that bottleneck.Good thing to do after releasing the updated version is to conduct another survey and see if the impression of your customers has changed. Thats how you will know whether you are on the right path or not.CO NCLUSIONLiving in the modern age has got everyone as a customer in the center of attention. All organizations and companies are becoming more and more customer oriented, in order to survive on the market and enable growth.Whether you are looking for a way to do that or you were just interested in seeing how customer satisfaction score works and why is it so relevant, this article probably helped you.At least you know from where to start. Remember its always the customer.

How Many Atoms Exist in the Universe

The universe is vast. Scientists estimate there are 1080  atoms in the universe. Since we cant go out and count each particle, the number of atoms in the universe is an estimate. It is a calculated value and not just some random, made-up number. How the Number of Atoms Is Calculated The calculation of the number of atoms assumes  the universe is finite and has a relatively homogeneous composition. This is based on our understanding of the universe, which we see as a set of galaxies, each containing stars. If it turns out there are many such sets of galaxies, the number of atoms would be much greater than the current estimate. If the universe is infinite, then it consists of an infinite number of atoms. Hubble sees the edge of the collection of galaxies, with nothing beyond it, so the present concept of the universe is a finite size with known characteristics. The observable universe consists of approximately 100 billion galaxies. On average, each galaxy contains about one trillion or 1023 stars. Stars come in different sizes, but a typical star, like the Sun, has a mass of around 2 x 1030 kilograms. Stars fuse lighter elements into heavier ones, but most of the mass of an active star consists of hydrogen. It is believed 74% of the mass of the Milky Way, for example, is in the form of hydrogen atoms. The Sun contains approximately 1057 atoms of hydrogen. If you multiply the number of atoms per star (1057) times the estimated number of stars in the universe (1023), you get a value of 1080 atoms in the known universe. Other Estimates of Atoms in the Universe Although 1080 atoms is a good ballpark value for the number of atoms in the universe, other estimates exist, mainly based on different calculations of the size of the universe. Another calculation is based on measurements of cosmic microwave background radiation. Overall, the estimates of the number of atoms range from  between 1078  to 1082  atoms. Both of these estimates are large numbers, yet they are very different, indicating a significant degree of error. These estimates are based on hard data, so they are correct based on what we know. Revised estimates will be made as we learn more about the universe. Sources Whitehouse, David. The Causes and Effects of Internet Addiction Free Essays

What is internet addiction? * Internet Addiction: Destroying your mind. â€Å"Your Brain on Clicks† There are a lot of people today in the world, especially in the Philippines who may have been addicted to different kinds of vices. One of these may probably be called â€Å"internet addiction. We will write a custom essay sample on The Causes and Effects of Internet Addiction or any similar topic only for you Order Now † Men and women, even youngsters these days are being pulled out from their spiritual lives by the wickedness of this world and even, I myself have been greatly affected by this. Satan is attacking us slowly, that we didn’t notice what our lives may be doing, because we may usually think it is normal to be addicted to internet, but we know that God hates it. He is a jealous God. God has been hurt in many ways because when He calls us, we can’t hear because our eyes, and ears are focused on the world. In a world of rapidly advancing technology, it is hard to ignore that internet is becoming more and more centric to our lives, worldwide. Yet the convenience the electronic age provides come with a price. The ugly truth is that the internet is as addictive as it is useful. Internet addiction can destroy us in every way, and we find ourselves invariably and unwittingly chained by the shackles of the addictive elements of the internet. The early internet was used by computer experts, engineers, scientists, and librarians. There was nothing friendly about it. There were no home or office personal computers in those days, and anyone who used it, whether a computer professional or an engineer or scientist or librarian, had to learn to use a very complex system. Most people today rely on the web for almost anything. With just one click, one can find information within seconds when it would have taken hours, even days, poring through encyclopedias in the past. Social networking sites have made the world smaller, as we find friends we have lost touch with since childhood years. The Internet also provides online conveniences such as shopping, banking and paying bills. Indeed, it has also changed the way we live. However, technology comes with a price. With the advent of the internet came the proliferation of identity theft and  pornography and, lately, the emergence of also a new  disorder called  Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD), which has now become a subject of research among scientists and psychologists. Similar to gambling in our surroundings, internet addiction is also included in the  process type of addiction,  which is an addiction to certain mood behaviors. People who are internet addicts develop a compulsive habit to surf the net, join chat rooms, and nurture virtual characters by playing online games. People who are caught up in the net due to various reasons, are mostly for relaxation, work, or both. When their balance gets lost, more of their time becomes devoted in the virtual world, and then this is where the internet starts to become addictive. When a person is dysfunctioned, he or she jeopardizes or compromises his work, school, family, and relationships because of spending too much time on the net. If we lose track of time or if we neglect our responsibilities we are showing signs of a person who is extremely absorbed in the Internet. If we continue getting addicted to internet, we might risk our personal health because of excessive use. We might develop unhealthy habits like skipping our meals just to stay online, because we cannot stop the urge of using the net. Most people nowadays in our society are so addicted that whenever they cannot connect online, it brings them panic attacks or other disorders, feeling helpless and irritable. The Bible even tells us not to love the world or things in the world. Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides fore ver. † (1 John 2:15-17) Because of this, as Christians and children of God, we must manage or limit internet use and control the urge to stay online longer than intended, before it becomes a serious problem for us. Recognizing this signs will help computer addicts confront and deal with their addiction and if it still goes on a person should consider getting support from friends and loved ones or seeking professional help if they suspect that they are slowly becoming addicted to the net. * What are the main causes of internet addiction? A real addiction negatively affects home life, interpersonal relationships, work, and emotional health. Often an addiction will negatively impact a person’s physical health as well. * A large preoccupation with being online. Often an individual will think a lot about their last session online, and be excited about the next time they can access the Web. * An individual needs to use the Internet more frequently to get satisfaction from the activity. * Feeling bored, upset, restless, moody, depressed or anxiety-ridden when they can’t be online. * Becoming angry when someone needs the computer or refusing to share time – most common in households where there are shared computers. * Forgets all about time when online. * Can’t stop getting online, no matter how hard they try. * Compulsive lying  to friends and family about time spent online. Puts a job, relationship, or other responsibility at risk in order to continue to spend time online. For example, a person may cancel a date, miss a family dinner, or forget a work meeting because of their computer time. * Uses the Internet to escape frequently. In some cases the Internet may be the only activity that calms an addicted and agitated p erson down. * When online, or after an online session a person may feel a sense of  manic depression, guilt, anxiety, or hopelessness. * Social Causes * Some people become addicted to the Internet because of the social connections they make online. Some online relationship activity can be useful and healthy, and many people utilize forums for advice or chats for relaxation, but when a person has many close online friends and no one to count on in the real world, problems can develop. * An Internet addicted individual though, will develop highly emotional attachments to online pals or even online dates. Online relationships are attractive to some because it can feel less risky than meeting live people in person. Online friends allow people to escape their real lives and possibly fulfill their needs for emotional contacts that they don’t get in real life. Some who are addicted to online relationships may even create pretend personalities or personas of themselves. This is actually a dangerous practice because often the people who create these fake lives are already low on self-esteem or desperately seeking the approval of others. Instead of seeking real help, say from a counselor, these individuals just re-make themselves online, while changing nothing about their real offline lives. This can lead to increased symptoms of depression and feelings of inadequacy. * Personality Trait Causes One  interesting paper  on Internet addiction notes that some people may be predisposed to online addictions; much like one can be predisposed to an alcohol addiction. What the paper points out is that someone with the right mix of an addictive personality, life stressors, and poor emotional health could get addicted if the Internet happens to also fall into their life during this time. * Along with the previous example are people who may become addicted because the internet reinforces a positive feeling. For example, a wife not getting her emotional needs met by her husband, may hop online and find friendly sites and people willing to talk. Each time she has an issue with her husband there are positives to getting online. This reinforces the hold the Internet can have on someone. The Effects of Internet Addiction With most teens and adolescents, there is a thin line between casual Internet use and addiction. The Internet has become a portal to knowledge and digital adventure for many, but some parents fear the negative effects of the unlimited access to all forms of content. Parents specifically take issue with the easy access their children have to explicit material, and the compulsive behavior that can stem from it. Here are the facts on Internet addiction and its effects. Read more:  The Effects of Internet Addiction | eHow. com  http://www. ehow. com/about_5247242_effects-internet-addiction. html#ixzz1gVsf1UIn Definition * According to Helpguide. org, Internet addiction can be defined as compulsive use that interferes with the natural flow of one’s daily life, relationships or work. The organization also notes that Internet addiction is not yet formally identified as a psychological disorder. The concept of Internet addiction has gained popularity due to prevailing evidence that shows compulsive use can have a detrimental effect on the lifestyle and health of the individuals who are connected to it. Signs of Addiction * People who have Internet addiction tend to have mixed feelings of both joy and guilt while on the computer. They generally lose track of time and neglect responsibilities. They uncontrollably use the computer to relieve stress, cheer up or for sexual gratification. They feel anxious or irritable when away from the computer and are more likely to alienate themselves from family and friends, generally preferring to make their social connections with strangers online. Social Effect * Internet addiction can be a significant threat to one’s health and social well-being in that it enforces antisocial behavior. The addiction can lead to the inability to communicate in the real world by depriving the addict of the daily practices involved with interpersonal communication. The act of using facial expressions or certain gestures to relay intended emotion or emphasize meaning decline as the addict substitutes keystrokes resembling smiley faces, or avatars. Socially, subjects become more inclined to develop personality disorders in which they identify more with their Internet representation than their real-life persona. Ultimately, an addiction to the Internet can cripple one’s ability to maintain a healthy social life. Sexual Effect * There is a popular belief among promoters of Internet censorship that overexposure to the type of explicit material available online can lead to a deluded view of real-life sexual interaction and to sex addiction. Helpguide. org defines sex addiction as compulsive sexual behavior that creates negative legal, emotional, career or physical consequences. This behavior is considered a common psychological disorder stemming from Internet addiction. Addiction Candidates * People who are most susceptible to Internet addiction are teenagers, people who already have anxiety attacks or issues with anxiety, those who have undergone recent trauma that has made them home-bound and less active, people with prior addictions and those with a lack of support from their peers or family. People coping with depression are the biggest candidates to find solace in excessive computer and Internet use. How to cite The Causes and Effects of Internet Addiction, Papers

Much Ado About Nothing Essays (985 words) - English-language Films

Much Ado About Nothing Much Ado About Nothing is one of William Shakespeare's many comedy plays. Much Ado About Nothing differs from most of the other comedies in that it has "naturalized" the romantic materials. There are not any fairy kingdoms, as in Midsummer to help the story flow better. Even the language does not have the quality of Shakespeare's other writings. It is closer to ordinary speech. William Shakespeare was very well know for his for his poetry from about 1587 up to the present date. Many of his writings are being interpreted into movies today. Claudio, Don Pedro, Bene*censored*, Hero and Beatrice are the five main characters in Much Ado About Nothing. Throughout this whole play everyone in the story is trying to accomplish something without telling others all the information. In this romantic comedy two sets of lovers share the spotlight. Most of the plot's action is devoted to Claudio and Hero, who eventually come together despite the different problems. In the first part of this play, Claudio's best friend Don Pedro volunteers to bring Claudio to Hero's attention, but before he has finished Don Pedro's brother, Don John, spreads rumors that Don Pedro has made Hero fall for him. Claudio finds out that he was only hearing rumors and Don Pedro brings Hero and Claudio together. Meanwhile, Beatrice and Bene*censored* amuse the others. Tricks are played on Beatrice and Bene*censored* so they think that they like each other. Later one of Don John's friends pretends to make love with Hero while Don Pedro and Claudio witness from a hiding place. Claudio and Hero arrive at their wedding and before they are married Claudio denounces Hero as unfaithful. Hero's father believes this false information and curses her. She swears to him that is untrue and the Friar gives advice to say that Hero died of grief and, then, to hope the truth will come out. Don John's friend is captured and he admits to pretending to be with Hero that night. Claudio then finds out and tells Hero's father that he will take the hand of his "niece" in marriage. This is where Claudio realizes his true love for Hero. He is full of sorrow and does not think anything could change the way he feels about Hero. He is deeply in love with her but it is too late because he has killed her. The play ends with the return of Hero, masked as Hero's father's "niece." Hero and Claudio reunite. Bene*censored* and Beatrice also join hands. Don John is punished in the end for all of his problem causing. Claudio is introduced as a young lord of Florence, a soldier and a loyal friend. He is, however, one who is easily carried away by romantic ideas and tends to let his emotions be ruled by traditional attitudes. Shakespeare makes it seem that there is also something of a self-seeking protective character in his love affair. He has "love" of some sort for Hero yet he decides this only after seeing her. He falls in love with the outside of her and assumes that her personality is just as great as the outside. Claudio may seem bad but he also is a very remorseful man. He is truly sorry for his error, is willing to do anything for Hero's father and sticks with his deal. Don Pedro, the Prince of Arragon, is a noble, frank, genial and a well-tempered man. He can be a bit hasty to jump to conclusions. He has been successful in putting down the rebellion acts of his brother and has graciously pardoned him. He is not only a lord but also a close friend to his followers Claudio and Bene*censored*. He obviously wishes to enjoy his stay in Messina, and his offer to help Hero fall for Claudio seems to be encouraged by the pleasure of amusing and challenging him to help his friend. He welcomes the opportunity to bringing Bene*censored* and Beatrice together. This shows his love for different challenges. Bene*censored* is a young lord of Padua. He is confused by the how he should approach Beatrice with his feelings for her. After his friends play a trick on him and he finds out that Beatrice likes him he falls deeply in love with her. He expresses his love for her through a letter that Claudio steals from him and gives to Beatrice. In the end of the story they represent " the perfect match." Hero is the beautiful daughter of Leonato who is loved by

Bohr Atom Energy Change Example Problem

Bohr Atom Energy Change Example Problem This example problem demonstrates how to find the energy change that corresponds to a change between energy levels of a Bohr atom. According to the Bohr model, an atom consists of a small positive charged nucleus that is orbited by negatively charged electrons. The energy of an electrons orbit is determined by the size of the orbit, with the lowest energy found in the smallest, innermost orbit. When an electron moves from one orbit to another, energy is absorbed or released. The Rydberg formula is used to find the atom energy change. Most Bohr atom problems deal with hydrogen because it is the simplest atom and the easiest to use for calculations. Comparison contrast - Essay Example The reason for being athletes Athletic can broadly cover all the physical activities that individuals involveinactivities that help boost their physique. People have different motives for participating in sporting events. Allender advocates that frequency of a person in events associated with bodybuildingdetermines the potential to win. An individual requires much physical energy to enhance the capability to perform better. Despite the positive impacts on an individual’s life resulting from involvement in sports, there are differing elements constituting to why individuals continue participating in athletes. Some do it for pleasure while others have hopes of growing into world champions. Contrast between Andy and Darwin a) Strength The strength of an individual player is of prime concern for the ability to remain in the field. Athletes have differing potential due to their frequent partaking in sports. Andy is a tennis player while Darwin is a Cub’s baseball player. Des pite the fact that all are ball games, Mueller states thatessential strength to involve oneself in the game differs from person to person. Andy usesless strength thanDarwin doesdue to the movement one makes when in the field.Opinionatedly, all athletes need enough energy for undertaking their positions while in the field. b) Salary Salary is the primary motive for people’s engagement in sporting activities. Through competition, one once declared the champion obtains several medals for the team. The salary attached to various players is different in regard to the activities they carry out. For instance, the salary of Andy is different from Darwin’s salary. The reason for the difference is the incapacitation of the team’s treasury. Salary difference may also be due to one’s performance. Coaches are very crucial people in the team, as they are the regulators of activities performed. Coaches are capable of determining who is to do what coaches should ensure t hat all players have equal pay despite what the individual does for the team. Robert, Weinberg, and Daniel illustrate that a better salary system motivates individuals into participating in athletics. c) Human health Physical activities are significant for the health of certain individuals. For one, an individual not fond of sports may end up acquiring some illnesses, some of which are avoidable through chipping in in physical activities. The Concept of Crime and Criminal Liability In almost all criminal laws, crime is defined as an act or omission in violation of an established law of the place where the crime was committed. Act refers to an overt movement of any part of the body, while omission refers to one's failure to act or to perform a lawful duty which he is obliged to do. In order for an act or omission to be considered as a crime, there must be a law punishing that act or requiring a person to perform such lawful duty. Such laws may be the common law that are utilized in the United Kingdom, or a statute, like the Modern Penal Code, which is passed by the legislature of countries like the United States. Crime is a generic term. It is used interchangeably with the term felony, violation or infraction by the criminal law of other countries. In the United Kingdom, an act or omission punishable by law is called as "offence." The violator may be termed as offender or defendant. A crime may be committed against a person like murder, against a property like theft, and against honor like defamation or intriguing against honor. When a person commits an offence, he is usually subjected to two liabilities. First is the civil liability which is the payment of the damages capable of pecuniary estimation in monetary form; and the second is the criminal liability which will subject the offender to life imprisonment, imprisonment for several years, or even death sentence, if found guilty. This research will only discuss that offences that can be committed against persons in the United Kingdom, the criminal liability the offender may incur, and the available defences he can utilize to lessen or even negate his criminal liability. The Great Gatsby and the tainted American Dream Essay -- essays resear

Benjamin Franklin coined the phrase, â€Å"American Dream† during the early infancy of our country, proposing this dream as, â€Å"That pursuit of a better existence †¦ [and] a higher quality of life through hard work, determination, and devotion.† While this may be what many of the characters in The Great Gatsby believe (Jay Gatsby in particular), one critical ideal is discarded in Fitzgerald’s twisted refinement of Franklin’s definition: morality. It is apparent that Jay Gatsby achieves his wealth and social status through illegal and immoral means, such as bootlegging alcohol. The irony becomes remarkably stunning when one realizes that the section of Franklin’s autobiography, which outlines his method for achieving this dream, is entitled â€Å"Moral Perfection†. Fitzgerald presents a dark satire by portraying the immoral Jay Gatsby as an icon for the decay of the dream Franklin proposed and promoted so avidly. Fitzgerald masterfull y allows the reader watch the evolution of Franklin’s American dream from its fertilization in the ambition of James Gatz to its dominance over Gatz’s life, eventually spawning Jay Gatsby (Gatz-bye) a self-destructive man holding on to a dream that can never become a reality. In addition to Gatsby’s delusional pursuit of happiness, Nick Carraway, our narrator, suffers from the same addiction to a dream, which, if made true, will never live up to its expectations. It is obvious that Nick envies Gatsby, hence the title of the novel. Nick is in awe of Gatsby’s wealth, social power and moreover, and most of all, the carefree lifestyle it allows. Nick, at the same time he is completely unaware of the illicit means by which Gatsby has gained his wealth. Following Gatsby’s death at the end of the novel, Fitzgerald shows Nick’s awakening from his dream to persuade the reader to walk away from his novel understanding the lesson that Nick learns from Gatsby’s folly. Fitzgerald strives to expose a striking realization that the American dream that Franklin proposed will never be able to deliver its promise of â€Å"a better existence† in a society where morality is tossed aside so casually. Fitzgerald litters the novel with a cast of characters who are struggling to chase either emotionless dreams or impossible ones. All of these other characters suffer from this plague of disillusionment that has come to be known as a staple in modernist writing. Morality... ...ended up had he followed Gatsby and taken that â€Å"job† offer. Tom and Daisy both suffer from the sins of gluttony and avarice that dominate their dreams of happiness, they can’t get away from thinking that the more they own the happier they’ll be. This can be seen in the way Tom mourns little for Myrtle, but only worries about himself when George comes to see him after Myrtle’s death. If he feels a little hurt it’s because he’ll have to go out and find another mistress, and we can’t say for sure whether or not he will. Fitzgerald is bent on making sure the readers take away one message, there is no more American dream. He doesn’t stop there though, he goes on to warn his readers that if you don’t believe him and decide chase your personal American dream and shoot too high or too low, you will end up miserable, possibly for the rest of your life. Lastly, there is no doubt that this novel’s message about the d ecay of the American dream is solely focused on an audience facing some of the most vastly changing times in our civilization’s history and a warning that just like Jay Gatsby found out, there is no way to reclaim the past, that American dream, Franklin’s American dream is gone.

Digital Electronics: Advantages and Disadvantages

Digital electronics, or digital (electronic) circuits, represent signals by discrete bands ofanalog levels, rather than by a continuous range. All levels within a band represent the same signal state. Relatively small changes to the analog signal levels due to manufacturing tolerance, signal attenuation or parasitic noise do not leave the discrete envelope, and as a result are ignored by signal state sensing circuitry. In most cases the number of these states is two, and they are represented by two voltage bands: one near a reference value (typically termed as â€Å"ground† or zero volts) and a value near the supply voltage, corresponding to the â€Å"false† (â€Å"0†) and â€Å"true† (â€Å"1†) values of the Boolean domain respectively. Digital techniques are useful because it is easier to get an electronic device to switch into one of a number of known states than to accurately reproduce a continuous range of values. Digital electronic circuits are usually made from large assemblies of logic gates, simple electronic representations of Boolean logic functions.Advantages An advantage of digital circuits when compared to analog circuits is that signals represented digitally can be transmitted without degradation due to noise. [2] For example, a continuous audio signal transmitted as a sequence of 1s and 0s, can be reconstructed without error, provided the noise picked up in transmission is not enough to prevent identification of the 1s and 0s. An hour of music can be stored on a compact disc using about 6 billion binary digits. In a digital system, a more precise representation of a signal can be obtained by using more binary digits to represent it.While this requires more digital circuits to process the signals, each digit is handled by the same kind of hardware. In an analog system, additional resolution requires fundamental improvements in the linearity and noise characteristics of each step of the signal chain. Computer-cont rolled digital systems can be controlled by software, allowing new functions to be added without changing hardware. Often this can be done outside of the factory by updating the product's software. So, the product's design errors can be corrected after the product is in a customer's hands.Information storage can be easier in digital systems than in analog ones. The noise-immunity of digital systems permits data to be stored and retrieved without degradation. In an analog system, noise from aging and wear degrade the information stored. In a digital system, as long as the total noise is below a certain level, the information can be recovered perfectly. [edit]Disadvantages In some cases, digital circuits use more energy than analog circuits to accomplish the same tasks, thus producing more heat which increases the complexity of the circuits such as the inclusion of heat sinks. In portable or battery-powered systems this can limit use of digital systems. For example, battery-powered cel lular telephones often use a low-power analog front-end to amplify and tune in the radio signals from the base station. However, a base station has grid power and can use power-hungry, but very flexible software radios. Such base stations can be easily reprogrammed to process the signals used in new cellular standards. Digital circuits are sometimes more expensive, especially in small quantities. Most useful digital systems must translate from continuous analog signals to discrete digital signals. This causes quantization errors. Quantization error can be reduced if the system stores enough digital data to represent the signal to the desired degree of fidelity. TheNyquist-Shannon sampling theorem provides an important guideline as to how much digital data is needed to accurately portray a given analog signal. In some systems, if a single piece of digital data is lost or misinterpreted, the meaning of large blocks of related data can completely change. Because of the cliff effect, it can be difficult for users to tell if a particular system is right on the edge of failure, or if it can tolerate much more noise before failing.Digital fragility can be reduced by designing a digital system for robustness. For example, a parity bit or other error management method can be inserted into the signal path. These schemes help the system detect errors, and then either correct the errors, or at least ask for a new copy of the data. In a state-machine, the state transition logic can be designed to catch unused states and trigger a reset sequence or other error recovery routine. Digital memory and transmission systems can use techniques such as error detection and correction to use additional data to correct any errors in transmission and storage. On the other hand, some techniques used in digital systems make those systems more vulnerable to single-bit errors. These techniques are acceptable when the underlying bits are reliable enough that such errors are highly unlikely. A single-bit error in audio data stored directly as linear pulse code modulation (such as on a CD-ROM) causes, at worst, a single click. Instead, many people use audio compression to save storage space and download time, even though a single-bit error may corrupt the entire song. A digital circuit is a circuit that functions on a number of different logic gates. The logic gates differentiate power signals. The power signals are then transferred to different parts of the digital circuit through other gates to create an output signal directly pertinent to the energy level at the moment of signal input. Most digital circuits are comprised mainly of smaller analog components that, because of the logic gate occurrence, only operate within a certain frame of voltages. Usually these operate at extremely low voltage signals. Digital circuits also require that the analog components located throughout the circuit not be placed in a manner that will allow them to perform analog functions. This usu ally means there is a logic gate both before and after the analog component. Digital circuits are becoming more and more popular as technology requires the electronic devices used every day to become smaller and smaller, making the items more readily accessible regardless of location or circumstance. A digital circuit reacts quickly as power or signal is delivered to them, as long as the signal it receives is within the correct frame of voltage or energy. Digital circuits usually work best with low voltage signals, as they are more capable of handling these signals than higher voltages.Analog circuits typically require much more voltage behind the input signal to perform with the speed that digital circuits provide. An electronic circuit is composed of individual electronic components, such as resistors, transistors, capacitors, inductors and diodes, connected by conductive wires or traces through which electric current can flow. The combination of components and wires allows various simple and complex operations to be performed: signals can be amplified, computations can be performed, and data can be moved from one place to another. 1] Circuits can be constructed of discrete components connected by individual pieces of wire, but today it is much more common to create interconnections by photolithographic techniques on a laminated substrate (a printed circuit board or PCB) and solder the components to these interconnections to create a finished circuit. In an integrated circuit or IC, the components and interconnections are formed on the same substrate, typically a semiconductor such as silicon or (less commonly) gallium arsenide. [2] Breadboards, perfboards or stripboards are common for testing new designs. They allow the designer to make quick changes to the circuit during development. An electronic circuit can usually be categorized as an analog circuit, a digital circuit or a mixed-signal circuit (a combination of analog circuits and digital circuits). analo g circuit analog circuit, electronic circuit that operates with currents and voltages that vary continuously with time and have no abrupt transitions between levels. Generally speaking, analog circuits are contrasted with digital circuits, which function as though currents or voltages exist only at one of a set of discrete levels, all transitions between levels being ignored.Since most physical quantities, e. g. , velocity and temperature, vary continuously, as does audio, an analog circuit provides the best means of representing them. However, digital circuits are often preferred because of the ease with which their outputs can be manipulated by computers, and because digital signals are more robust and less subject to transmission errors. There are special analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog circuits to convert from one type of signal to the other.

Theme Of Valediction By Seamus Heaney - 1722 Words

Love is both a beautiful and fragile thing that needs constant care and attention. When one loses someone, it can create a sense of loneliness. Seamus Heaneys Valediction describes this feeling as a poem about how a man feels when his lover is gone. The themes he discusses are love and loss. The poem is about Heaneys feelings for his lover and the feelings he has when his lovers absent. He uses images and metaphors that are associated with sailing to depict his experience of grief when the lady is gone. The poem is a plea for this yearning he is feeling about her. This yearning and grief is a powerful emotion. Seamus Heaneys poem Valediction uses sea imagery and metaphors to discuss the themes of love and loss. The first stanza of†¦show more content†¦The space that had been filled with her presence, the activities they did, the routine they had, conversations, and comfort he felt is now gone. The thing that makes the loss so difficult is the fact that it hurts to think and be reminded of what was. His heart has been ripped open and drained because her presence is no longer there. The next stanza in the poem states, All thought. In your presence/ Time rode easy, anchored (5-6). He is comparing time spent in your presence to a boat at anchor which creates a sense of stability and security (5). He uses a synecdoche who is the lady and the feelings for him as a smile when she leaves. According to Literature: The Human Experience a synecdoche is a, figure of speech in which a part is used to signify the whole (980). The speaker described this time spent with his lady as easy going and steady, calm and collected. She was always able to keep a smile on his face when he was around. Heaney is comparing and contrasting how he felt when his lover was there and not there. There is a lot of sailing imagery. He remembers the days he spent with his lover as easy sailing, smooth, enjoyable and uses the imagery of an anchor holding a sailboat down. But her absence has rocked the boat that is being tossed around and close to falling. The patterns and routine of their lives hav e been lost, and he is drifting along as a boat does at sea. This contrast between when she is
